Product Review: Jane Iredale Dream Tint SPF 15—Not my Dream

It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of tinted moisturizers.  So when I received Jane Iredale's Dream Tint (love the name BTW) I was extremely excited to try it. However I was disappointed because my color was not a match.  Which I found unusual, because tinted moisturizers overall are quite forgiving when it comes to color.

But first let me tell you the clam for Jane Iredale Dream Tint, because I love all that it promises:

This super-absorbent product not only hydrates, but prevents water loss, calms inflammation and improves the skin's elasticity. Plus, Dream Tint creates a soft-focus effect that minimizes the look of large pores and fine lines.
• Unique algae extracts moisturize and soothe
• Titanium dioxide provides SPF 15 with UVA protection
• Use alone as a tinted moisturizer and sunscreen or as the perfect primer for our minecural bases
• Available in five shades, as well as Lilac and Peach as brighteners, and Warm Bronze for the perfect sun-kissed look

My results:

Now, to be fair, this tinted moisturizer felt fabulous going on my skin.  And the feel of my skin was hydrated without being too heavy or sticky.  But my problem was the color.  I tried a "Dark".  Now, ordinarily I am not a dark, my tone is more in the olive/dark medium family.  But for the sake of beauty I tried it.

The color was clearly dark for my skin, but that wasn't the primary problem with the color. It took on what I call a "holographic" looks to it.  This commonly occurs when products are formulated with titanium dioxide, which is white.  And Dream Tint indeed used titanium dioxide for its SPF.

But I didn't give up.  I wanted to give it another chance.  So I had my daughter, who is a true "Dark" try it out.  And the same purple-y holographic thing happened on her skin too.

So, I'm rather disheartened.  I am thinking that perhaps the Warm Bronze may work for my skin–it appears to be more golden in tone.  But I will have to wait and see if the good folks at Jane Iredale give me another crack at it.

I do have a few other product from Jane Iredale to review, so check back.  One in particular I am already in love with so check back later for my review of the kohl pencils.

For now though, I have to give Jane Iredale Dream Tint 2 Blings.

Color is a plays a huge factor in choosing products for brown skin, and this one just did not live up to my standard, and I cannot recommend it to other women of color.
