Summer is here, and no doubt you will be spending more time outside in the sun. Time outside means time to lather up with the sunscreen. Now, everyone should be wearing some sort SPF protection on a daily basis.

So, the bottom line is that if you are in the sun, you need sunscreen or SPF protection. There so many sunscreens available now, that you can choose from so many varieties for your face, body, lips and even hair.

If you have skin rich with melanin, YES, you do need sunscreen! There is even a brand dedicated to Black skin now for sunscreen!

Sunscreen dos:

  1. Apply sunscreen 30 minutes BEFORE you get in the sun.
  2. Be generous, for your face be sure not to skimp, a quarter size is ideal. For your body an ounce or more.
  3. Reapply every 2 hours in you are in direct sun — beach, pool or outside. Why? Sunscreen gets used up, like the gas in your car.

Remember this, SPF stands for sun protection factor, a measure of how well sunscreen protects against UVB rays. A broad-spectrum sunscreen protects you from both types of UV light: UVA and UVB. UVB rays are the main cause of reddening and sunburn and therefore the most damaging to skin where skin cancer occurs. A good way to remember UVA versus UVB is this: UVA for aging and UVB for burn!

Another feature of Sunscreens now, is that they feature various benefits such as being water-resistant, the addition of good-for-your-skin ingredients, and anti-aging properties. We curated our list of the best sunscreens with benefits for your review:
