4 Items You Should Consider Adding to Your Bucket List
People always talk about their bucket list and what they want to do before it’s too late. It’s human nature to want to accomplish certain things before we can’t anymore. It’s how we make this life worth living—checking off activities that make us feel alive. Here are some awesome activities that should be added to your bucket list!
Go scuba-diving
This activity isn’t for the faint of heart. Don’t be fooled, snorkeling is one thing but scuba diving is a completely immersive experience. This activity can be enjoyed at many different skill levels. The first level is the most basic, it doesn’t require certification but you won’t be able to go very deep. This is the kind of diving that’s offered at vacation resorts and travel cities with an instructor in a class. Certification is expensive so the most basic level can satisfy the curious traveler, but maybe not the dedicated ocean dweller. Getting scuba certified through an organization like PADI is the next step. This will be a three-day certification process in which you will have to perform tasks and emergency procedures to learn how to operate the equipment. These types of dives will allow you to explore the ocean in ways you couldn’t imagine! It truly is a beautiful and surreal experience to be below water and observe the ocean from a new perspective. If you’re already a strong swimmer, this is the activity for you.
Travel to Thailand
Thailand is a country unlike any other. The pace of life and the patience of its people are a much-welcomed change. There is no rush to get anything done or be anywhere. Everyone just lives and exists together, always smiling and hospitable to every stranger that comes their way. They’re some of the nicest people, and most of them live in worse conditions than the majority of the United States. Why is this? Buddhism is widely practiced there. It’s a beautiful religion and culture that emphasizes the importance of living in the moment and being grateful for the possessions you have instead of obsessing over the ones you don’t. This doesn’t mean they don’t have goals or dreams, but it means they have a profound appreciation for each day—just the way it is. It’s a culture that should be experienced at least once in a lifetime. The appreciation for life might just rub off a little!
Go to a music festival
The electronic music scene has exploded in the past ten years. Production companies have enjoyed larger budgets and bigger performers because of it. The level of creativity and imagination that goes into producing these events is stunning. It really is something to experience. You can choose your desired festival based on music, desired size, and desired travel distance. If it’s your first time, going to Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas is probably not the best idea, but there’s so many more to choose from. Dressing up in crazy outfits is half the fun of these events. Have you ever ran around in an adult unicorn onesie without care in the world? Probably not, but it’s highly recommended. People are more open-minded and accepting at these events. It allows you to be and think more freely than in everyday life. Everyone should experience this freedom at least once.
Study a new subject just because
A big majority of schooling is following a regimen or a set schedule of classes to take year after year. There’s little room to explore certain subjects just because they sound cool or peak your interest. After school, it’s easy to get pigeonholed into solely focusing on paying the bills or advancing a career. However, learning something new as an adult is still important. Being able to teach yourself and evolve as we age is crucial to our growth, accomplishing something new is very satisfying. It’s proving to the world that an old dog can learn new tricks. We’re never too old to explore—so take that Spanish class at your community college, sign up for that yoga studio membership, or buy that cool book on calligraphy that caught your eye. Learning new skills feels inherently better than sitting in front of the TV. It’s never too late.
