Angela Bassett was the vision of Hollywood royalty on the red carpet for the 2021 Academy Awards. Wearing a  crimson Alberta Ferretti gown with an off-the-shoulder design accentuated with dramatic puff-sleeves, Bassett was surely the one to watch.

D’Andre Michael for Lancôme created Bassett’s glam makeup look for the evening.

INSPIRATION:

“The overall look was royal and regal, inspired by Cleopatra, a woman in charge of her own destiny. Leading with beauty, confidence, and dignity, she doesn’t bow to rules. She paves the way, sets the tone and she does what others don’t have the guts to do.” – D’Andre Michael for Lancôme

D’Andre and Angela started by prepping her skin using Lancôme Renergie Lift Multi-Action Ultra Sheet Mask, which gives an all over glow, long-lasting hydration, and makes skin feel firmer and look more radiant.  D’Andre then applied Lancôme Advanced Genifique Serum, which melts into the skin for extra hydration and a smooth canvas for makeup application.

FACE:

He started the look with Lancôme La Base Pro Makeup & Face Primer and mixed Lancôme Teint Idôle UltraWear Foundation in 360 Bisque and 495 Suede for all over foundation. D’Andre then went in with Lancôme Teint Idôle Ultra Makeup Stick in 500 Suede where needed for contour and cover-up, blending with the kabuki brush.

To set the skin, he used Lancôme Dual Finish Powder Foundation in 450 Suede with a powder brush to lock everything in. To highlight the cheekbones and high points of the face, D’Andre applied Lancôme Dual Finish Highlighter in Radiant Rose Gold, providing a shimmer and glow with subtle color on the cheeks

EYES:

D’Andre used the Lancôme Hypnôse 5-Color Eyeshadow Palette in Bleu Hypnotique for that gorgeous blue smokey eye and shade #4 (shimmer cobalt blue) over the entire eyelid and lower lid below the lashes.  He then used shade #5 (matte navy) on the upper and lower lash line and blended out to the corners for dimension and that smokey eye effect. A blend of shades #1 (shimmer white) and #3 (gold) were used on the inner corner of the eyes.

D’ Andre added Lancôme Le Crayon Khôl in Black Ebony on the inner lower and upper eyelid, smudging it along the lower lash. He finished the eyes with a few coats of Lancôme Monsieur Big Volumizing Mascara on the upper and lower eyelashes for length and drama.

LIPS:

D’Andre wanted the lip to have an ombre effect and used Lancôme Le Crayon in Plum on the corners and blended in slightly. He then used the NEW Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Drama Ink (launches in May) in shades 288 for the base, 274 in the middle, and 311 to highlight the center pout. The liquid lipstick is highly pigmented and dries semi-matte making it easy to layer. D’Andre finished with a touch of Lancôme Juicy Tubes in Hallucination for a highlight and shimmer on the center and top bow of the lip.
