Camille’s Crush: Black Opal Deluxe Finishing Powder Oil Control Formula

By the look on your face, you need to get a new one. Oil-control finishing powder, that is.

My new favorite setting powder for 2012 is brought to you by the kind folks at Black Opal. The name, Deluxe Finishing Powder Oil Control Formula. My boo, in particular is the shade Medium. Through long days and windy photo shoots by the bay, the "Deluxe" has not let me down yet. Wanna try, don't you?

The claim for Black Opal Deluxe Finishing Powder Oil Control Formula:

If you like playing it loose, this hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, translucent powder sets makeup beautifully and helps keep shine at bay throughout the day. Formulated with color-balancing pigments that help enhance your natural skin tone, this ultra-fine jet milled powder also gives your complexion a silky finish. For all skin types. Translucent finish.

What I Found:

What's so wonderful about Black Opal Deluxe Finishing Powder is how lightweight yet powerful it is. No gritty cornmeal feeling or baby powder mask look like some other finishing powders.

Yeah, put that junk in the dark spot of your makeup drawer.

My only plight with the product was the packaging. I would have loved to have one of those powder sifting mechanisms, which isn't necessary if you are careful.

Black Opal Deluxe Finishing Powder comes in four shades: Neutral Light, Medium, Dark and Deep. The added tint is a great tone corrector and helps bring balance over the skin of the face and neck.

I used this powder during a photo shoot, and  there was no need to reapply. The shine control of Black Opal Deluxe Finishing Powder was amazing, as was it's setting ability. In a dusky bar, the finish looked soft and smoky.  On a foggy day in Oakland, posing on the bridge, everything was crisp clean a fresh. No matter what light we cast, 'The Deluxe' showed up perfectly.

My cast of four models stayed FAB the entire time! If that's not the definition of Blinging, there isn't one.

Bling Factor:

Pros: Lightweight, smooth application, tone correcting, lasting effects

Cons: No sifter for product control.

Price: $8.95

Buy Again: Yes. By the bundle.

Packaging: 4 Blings

Overall: 5 Blings

Just getting wind of these powders and I might be able to use Medium for all over face but i’ll pick up the next shade which is Dark for good measure too (couldn’t use Deep unless I wanted to contour but that’s not my thing) in case i’m wrong lol then I’ll just use Medium for under-eye (or if I need to mix for all over). For reference I am an MAC NW43/NC45 crossover (sometimes mix, wear either alone depending on time of year/formula(s) used/powders used) and C7 in L’Oreal and Caramel in Revlon and Caramel/Caramel Dark 2 in Maybelline.

I definitely have to give it a try. I like their foundations though 🙂
