Wig Review: I Love My Mayvenn Virgin Brazilian Loose Wave Lace Front Wig

When Coronavirus hit, one of my major concerns was my hair. I know, that’s so shallow, but I work in the beauty industry, so I think it was a legitimate concern. I live in Atlanta GA, and we were hit hard by Covid 19.  The state shut down early on so I was quite happy that I had a Mayvenn wig in my possession. I’ve actually convinced myself that this is my real (alternative) hair!

I have to apologize to Mayvenn for not posting my review sooner; I didn’t want anyone to know about my “secret hair.” It’s all over my Instagram account! And I know that’s so lame, especially since the founder is from my home, Oakland, CA.

About Mayvenn:

My name is Diishan Imira, I am the founder and CEO of Mayvenn. I grew up watching hairstylists in my family run their businesses, and I noticed something… all of the hair products that our community was buying – we weren’t selling.

That didn’t sit right with me.

Mayvenn began with the idea that if people of color are spending billions of dollars on beauty products, we should also have ownership in the businesses that sell those products. Furthermore, those products should be of the highest quality and delivered with world-class customer service.

We created the Mayvenn platform so that the salons and hairstylists in our community could be the retailers of these products, allowing their customers to shop in a dignified way, while receiving the best products and service for their hard-earned money.

This company started with a box of hair in the trunk of my Toyota Corolla. It has now grown into a nationwide movement of over 50,000 stylists, hundreds of thousands of customers, and millions of dollars invested back into salons in our neighborhoods.

The path of entrepreneurship is difficult, but there is no better reward – nothing more beautiful, than living life independently and on your own terms. This is what I want for my community, and Mayvenn is my way of supporting that.

Why I love my Mayvenn Virgin Brazilian Loose Wave Lace Front Wig:

Well, number one, I’m no hair stylist. I actually come from parents who hated to comb their hair, but fortunately their hair was curly wavy so it really didn’t matter. So, when I had to opportunity to try this Mayvenn Lace Front Wig I jumped at the chance.

As I mentioned earlier, it was the beginning of Coronavirus, so I wasn’t able to get to the hairdresser, even though that’s essential in my book. So I decided to try my Mayvenn Virgin Brazilian Loose Wave Lace Front Wig. Well, it was love at first wearing.

I am such a klutz when it comes to doing hair and this wig install bit, that I pretty much skipped the proper protocols for making my wig fit correctly. But guess what? With all my cheating, it still looked fabulous. (And still does!)

I did manage to trim the lace, but I didn’t pluck the part because I was afraid I would ruin my unit.  No worries if you have the same problem though, Mayvenn has tutorials on how to properly install your wig. And, they offer installation services!

My work around was pretty simple. I pulled out the hair around my forehead and flat ironed and curled it so it looked like part of the wig. As far as my part is concerned, I prefer a side part so I just brushed the part section like crazy and made it lay kind of flat. Then I throw on the wig cap and slip that lovely wig on. A little bit of blending of my hair into the wig har, and boom. NO ONE knew I had a wig. I guess that’s until a hot flash hits me and my edges start curling up…

I love that there is a realistic amount of hair in the wig — it doesn’t look like I have a massive weave or fake hair.
