The Minimalist Beauty Review: CoverGirl NatureLuxe Mousse Mascara

The Minimalist Beauty Review: CoverGirl NatureLuxe Mousse Mascara

As a self-described minimalist,  I consider myself to be low maintence on every level. I'm pretty simple with my beauty regimen and like to focus on highlighting healthy skin with quality products.

I usually forgo makeup, but I love the natural look of a light coat of mascara to define lashes and frame my eyes. Mascara is actually one of the essential items in my everyday "minute" face—a swipe or two at most, a quick touch-up to well-groomed brows, a tinted balm for a little color on the lips, and I'm done!

So far, I've tried several brands of drugstore mascara and can't say I've been wowed to date. Sure, they're inexpensive and super accessible, but none really seem to cater to the look I'm going for. When I got wind of the new CoverGirl Natureluxe line, I decided to give their Mousse Mascara a try, and I'm glad I did!

While the Natureluxe Mousse Mascara is not all-natural, CoverGirl improved on its conventional formulas by exchanging some of the synthetic ingredients with naturally-derived ingredients like beeswax and tapioca. The brand is not known for making green products, but undergoing a revamp of sorts with the addition of this new collection that appeals to minimalistas like myself. The line, so far consisting of the Silk Foundation, Lip Gloss Balm, and Mousse Mascara, debuted to rave reviews.

The claim:

Discover luxurious volume that feels light as air. We took out a heavy synthetic and put in a light touch of beeswax — for luxurious lashes that are 20% lighter (than the most expensive mascara) with 2X more volume (vs bare lashes).

According to CoverGirl, Natureluxe Mousse Mascara:

-Is hypoallergenic

-Is ophthalmologically tested

-Dramatically increases volume

-Leaves lashes light and lifted

-Is infused with "a touch of honey"

My experience:

True to the promise of "lighter, lifted lashes," I can attest to the difference between this product and the other drugstore mascaras I occasionally use. The mousse-like formula is rich and creamy, which I loved. I was able to apply it with out the usual 'pull' of conventional mascaras which go on much drier.

I was happy after only one application, allowing my lengthened lashes to carefully dry to avoid 'raccoon eye.' Once fully set, there was no caked on, clumpy feeling. As the day wore on, my lashes remained defined but felt soft, flexible and flake-free!

Natureluxe Mousse Mascara also wasn't difficult to remove. I generally dread taking off makeup at the end of the day, but it took just a swipe of my regular facial wipes and I was good to go (to bed that is). But that wasn't enough for me.

The next day, I decided to put CoverGirl's promise that it "removes easily with soap and water" to the test. After wearing the Natureluxe Mascara, I literally just washed my face with my usual cleanser, and came away clean. My lashes felt lush, without that familiar crunchy feel—thanks to the beeswax I suppose. Impressive!

This is a bit random to note, but the Natureluxe Mascara actually has a slightly sweet scent, owning to the "touch of honey" they incorporated. I was pleasantly surprised and kind of amused- after all, who expects mascara to smell good?

I could definitely see myself wearing this regularly since it lengthens without looking like I have mascara on, wears well, and comes off easily. My only reservation is the ingredients, which are still less than stellar despite the green-colored "nature" label. But you can't beat this mascara for a quality budget buy, so I will probably purchase it in the future!

Bling factor:

Pros: This light and wearable formula looks, feels, and… smells, great!

Cons: The makeover is nice, but Natureluxe Mousse Mascara is still full of not so "natural" chemicals—not an issue if you wear conventional mascara anyway.

Buy Again: Probably
