Spa(ahhh) Day Sunday: DIY Soothing Bath Salts & SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Soak

While summers call for cool showers, fall and winter nights are the perfect time to relax in a soothing bath. With the right ingredients,  bath salts can prove to more than just a relaxing time — you can actually have physical benefits from them. So whether you make your own bath salts or purchases a pre-made soak, give yourself some time on this Spa(ahhh) Day Sunday to relax with a steamy hot bath.

We have a great recipe for  DIY Soothing Bath Salts, and for you lazy girls (like me) you can always purchases of of SheaMoisture’s lovely soaks. My particular favorite is highlighted below.

This recipe for DIY Soothing Bath Salts is borrowed from Martha Stewart, so you know it’s bound to be “perfect.”

  • Coarse sea salt
  • Epsom salts
  • Baking soda
  • Essential oils
  • Food coloring


  1. STEP 1

    In a large bowl, mix to combine: 6 parts coarse sea salt; 3 parts epsom salts, to soothe tired muscles and reduce inflammation; and 1 part baking soda, to soften waters and alleviate skin irritation.

  2. STEP 2

    Add a few drops of essential oils, and combine.

  3. STEP 3

    Add a few drops of food coloring, until you achieve the desired shade. If you intend to present the bath salts as gifts, be sure to store them in a stoppered and labeled container to keep out moisture.
