Get the Look: Andra Day’s Golden Globe’s Hair x ghd

Andra Day became the second Black woman to win a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a drama — “The United States vs. Billie Holiday,” directed by Lee Daniels. Day exuded old Hollywood glamour wearing a CHANEL gown and fine jewelry.

Celebrity Hairstylist Tony Medina created Day’s gorgeous curly updo using ghd tools.

TIPS & TECHNIQUES

First, Tony brushed through Andra’s natural curls to get the hair as soft and workable as possible.

Next, sectioning the perimeter of the hair, about two inches thick, Tony used the NEW ghd max styler ($219; launching 3/1) to smooth out the roots of the hair, prepping it for her tight pony and ensuring long-lasting smoothness and shine. The tool’s wide plates allow it to quickly straighten curly hair in one pass.

Then Tony pulled the hair into a tight high pony and used the ghd narrow dressing brush ($40) to smooth out the hair. He combed the edges and using the OSiS+ Crystal Gel by Schwarzkopf with the ghd helios™ professional hair dryer ($249) on the cool setting to freeze the hair into place.

To finish the look, Tony used the ghd curve creative curl wand ($199), to accentuate and perfect Andra’s curls, pulling them apart one by one to build a full bun of loose curls. Last, Tony sprayed the hair with OSiS+ Smooth Strong Hairspray to keep the hair in place.
