Mary J. Blige, the Queen of Hip Hop Soul, covers the February 2022 Elle. The issue address the state of Black Beauty, but dwells primarily on Blige’s hair choices over the years. Additionally, Blige discusses that she didn’t find herself beautiful until 2017 while filming 2017 historical drama Mudbound.
The photoshoot, in a “shop” that most black women can identify with, made an interesting juxtaposition to Blige’s full-on glam looks. True, Blige has ditched sable for faux fur in this shoot, but she still holds on to her affinity to designer wear, “hood” style earrings and her signature blond hair. Only now her hair is ultra long and ultra glamorous.
