A Buyer’s Guide to Saving and Splurging on Furniture

Houses, cars, and furniture are just a few of the most expensive purchases you’ll ever make. The odds are that you’re no stranger to splurging, whether it’s on shoes or make-up. When you’re decorating your home, whether it’s your first house or an apartment, you’ll want to choose only the best furniture. While some items may be out of your price range, others may be too cheap.

Don’t worry, though. You can still have great furniture for your home no matter your budget. The secret is to know which items you should spend more money on and which you can save on. In this guide, you’ll learn when to save and when to splurge on furniture.

When to Splurge

Sofa

Your living room sofa is one of the most important pieces of furniture in your home and will get a lot of use out of it. Look for a couch that’s made with high-quality materials, and if you have a pet, make sure that it’s advertised as pet resistant so that your furry friends don’t accidentally claw it up if they’re allowed on the furniture.

Depending on your personal style, your sofa can be comfortable while making a statement. It’s also likely the largest piece you’ll have in your living room, which means it’s going to draw the eye. An aesthetically pleasing, comfortable sofa should last for years, even if you choose to redesign your interior space.

Mattress and Pillows

You should be spending at least 8 hours a day in your bedroom by sleeping alone. Your mattress and pillows must be comfortable and provide you with the ability to sleep soundly through the night. Your beauty beauty sleep is important. A quality mattress is key to helping you stay happy, healthy, and well-rested, so there’s no reason to save. This purchase is absolutely necessary, and it’s always better to spend more than less.

A kapok pillow can help you sleep more soundly throughout the night, while the copper fabric is cooler and cleaner to improve hygiene and reduce odor.

Window Treatments

Your home’s windows are its focal points, so it’s a good idea to spend the necessary amount to make them look their best. Your window treatments can make an already gorgeous window even better looking while blocking out light. High-quality fabrics can provide your home with better privacy while adding a luxury feel to your home.

Windows are places where there’s a lot of dust build-up and the potential for mold, so make sure that you get window treatments that can be easily cleanable or resist both dust and mold for cleaner, healthier air in your home.

When to Save

Accents and Candles

While not necessarily furniture, accents can make your home feel like it’s yours. Luckily, though, you don’t have to spend a ton on accents and pieces that make your space feel homier. Instead, opt for peel and stick wallpaper that allows you to change the entire look of a room without painting.

Candles are fairly inexpensive, and the scent of your home can change your mood entirely, helping you relax from a long, stressful day.

Side Tables

Your side tables are functional, but they don’t typically catch the eye even if they’re elegant. Side tables are typically hidden in orders or between chairs and sofas, so they’re not going to get noticed as much as the larger ticket items. You can find side tables at almost any furniture store or even your local supermarket that match your design aesthetic without going over budget.

Lighting

The lighting in your home is important because it can create a certain mood. Lower lighting can allow you to relax, while brighter lighting is necessary for certain tasks like cooking. If you’re not happy with the way your home is lit, there’s no reason to go out and redo all of the lighting fixtures in your home. Instead, add lamps where you need them. Lamps can match your design aesthetic while helping you create the lighting you need in each room.
