Rihanna Covers ELLE’s September 2026 Issue as the Ultimate Dior Muse

Rihanna commands the coveted cover of ELLE USA’s September 2026 issue. Once again Riri reminds us that few stars possess her singular mix of beauty, confidence and cultural influence.

Photographed by Inez & Vinoodh, the cover was styled by Rihanna’s longtime collaborator Jahleel Weaver. It accompanies the feature “Rihanna Will Always Be the Ultimate Muse,” written by Roxane Gay.

Rather than a traditional interview, the story is a tribute to Rihanna’s evolution from global music star to beauty entrepreneur, mother and enduring fashion muse.

Rihanna’s ELLE Cover Look

For the cover, Rihanna wears a custom Dior corset dress with a coordinating skirt and a dramatic men’s headpiece. Chopard earrings provide the finishing touch.

The Makeup: Raw, Dewy and Undone

For the main ELLE cover, Hector Espinal kept Rihanna’s complexion looking deeply hydrated, dewy and clear. Skin was prepped with Fenty Skin Hydra Vizor Invisible Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen, creating the luminous canvas that anchors the look.

The Complexion: The finish is matte yet raw rather than flat or overly powdered. Fenty Beauty Instant Setting + Blotting Powder was used to control shine during the shoot while keeping the skin looking natural and fresh.

The Brows: Rihanna’s bleached brows are one of the cover’s defining beauty details. Lightened to a soft, muted tone that nearly disappears into her complexion, they give the face an ethereal, editorial edge and allow her features—and that extraordinary Dior headpiece—to take center stage.

The Vibe: Instead of highly produced red-carpet glam, the beauty direction feels deliberately raw and slightly undone. Dewy skin, muted brows and minimal-looking makeup put Rihanna’s face card front and center while complementing the avant-garde Dior styling.

Loose, touchable curls add to the cover’s sensual, slightly undone feeling. It is glamorous without appearing overly polished: a balance Rihanna has mastered throughout her career.

Hair was created by Jawara using Fenty Hair, while Hector Espinal completed her makeup with Fenty Beauty and Fenty Skin. Manicurist Kim Truong created the accompanying nail looks.

Rihanna Becomes the Muse for Dior J’adore Intense

The cover celebrates Rihanna’s newest role as the face and inspiration behind Dior J’adore Intense, a richer interpretation of the house’s iconic J’adore fragrance.

Dior perfume creation director Francis Kurkdjian developed the fragrance as an ode to Rihanna’s liberated spirit, confidence and willingness to experience pleasure without restraint.

Rihanna’s relationship with Dior is particularly significant. In 2015, she became the fashion house’s first Black ambassador, breaking another long-standing barrier in luxury fashion. Her new J’adore campaign represents the next chapter in that history-making partnership.

The Beauty of Rihanna’s Influence

The cover story also recognizes Rihanna’s impact on the modern beauty industry.

When Fenty Beauty launched with 40 foundation shades, (now 50) the brand did more than introduce an expansive shade range. It centered women of color from the beginning and demonstrated that inclusive beauty could be both culturally significant and commercially powerful.

The industry quickly followed, but Rihanna had already changed consumer expectations. Beauty brands could no longer treat deeper skin tones as an afterthought.

Nearly a decade later, that influence remains an essential part of Rihanna’s legacy.
