Spa(ahhh) Day Sunday: June Jacobs Perfect Pumpkin Peeling Enzyme Masque Review

Sundays are my day to treat myself and my skin –to treat it well. Despite all my preaching about best skin care practices, I fall seem to short by Friday night. Saturdays I’m pretty minimal about skin care and makeup, so by the time Sunday comes around, I’m in need of some TLC for my face. Today it’s all about a fabulous exfoliation and pumping some moisture back in my skin. I’m trying out June Jacobs Perfect Pumpkin Peeling Enzyme Masque for my Spa(ahhh) Day Sunday.

About June Jacobs Perfect Pumpkin Peeling Enzyme Masque $65

Paraben and preservative free, this spicy, detoxifying masque contains a powerful pumpkin enzyme to digest dead surface cells, stimulating cellular turnover and improving skin’s tone and texture. Pumpkin is naturally rich in essential fatty acids, vitamins A and C, as well as zinc, a mineral that aids in the healing process, which work synergistically to rebuild the elasticity of the skin. Powerful patented anti-oxidant blend of white, red and green tea extracts combined with goji berry, pomegranate and grape seed extracts help to neutralize free radicals, protect skin from environmental toxins and combat the visible signs of premature aging.

My results:

Before applying June Jacobs Perfect Pumpkin Peeling Enzyme Masque to my skin, it looked a bit dry, dehydrated and dull. This is not exactly the look a so-called skin care guru should be rocking. So, on to the spa day festivities…

After a thorough cleansing, I applied a moderate layer of June Jacobs Perfect Pumpkin Peeling Enzyme Masque over the entirety of my face. This masque does smell like pumpkin, but more pleasant! It is a smooth gel consistency that is easily applied with fingers or spatula. It has a cooling feel due to the fact that it has a gel type formula, but I was able to feel the enzymes going to work. This is not a bad thing! But, if you have sensitive skin, you may want to limit the minutes you leave the masque on. The directions advise 3-10 minutes, but I think I had mine of for close to 30 minutes. (I read the directions after using.)

I rinsed June Jacobs Perfect Pumpkin Peeling Enzyme Masque off with tepid water and pat dried with towel. Without applying any other skin care I had a look at my face in the mirror and was so pleased. The patchiness of dry and dehydrated skin were gone. My pores were clear. My skin was glowing. On top of all that, it felt wonderful. I didn’t even like I needed to add add my treatment serum and moisturizer, but of course I did. I’m saying that to let you know that even though this mask “peels” your skin, it also hydrates no doubt due to the inclusion of hyaluronic acid in the formula.

According to the usage directions, this masque can be used once or twice weekly in the absence of irritation, so I am going to add it into my skin care regimen as a mid-week boost!

Hero Ingredients: White, red and green tea extracts combined with goji berry, pomegranate and grapeseed extracts help to neutralize free radicals, protect skin from environmental toxins and combat the visible signs of premature aging. 15% Pumpkin Extract – Derived from the common field pumpkin native to the Americas, the seeds are rich in antioxidant vitamins A, C and E, many valuable minerals (especially zinc), amino acids, essential fatty acids, fiber and four times the amount of beta-carotene found in carrots. Protease is a pumpkin enzyme that has the natural ability to gently dissolve dry skin. It is used as an exfoliant in face masques as its protein digesting properties allow it to dissolve dead skin cells. Retinyl Palmitate – Ester-form of vitamin A, it acts as an anti-oxidant, aids in the prevention of dryness and maintains the normal life cycle of skin cells adding smoothness to the skin’s texture. Hyaluronic Acid – Naturally occurring in the extracellular matrix (ECM) of the skin, it regulates cell behavior during the healing process and reduces inflammation. Hyaluronic acid acts as a humectant to maintain and attract water, minimizing trans-epidermal water loss.
