Monday Makeup: Get the Look — Janet Jackson Glamour Woman of the Year Gala

Can Janet Jackson get any better?  It seems that like black women are aging beautifully — Iman, Vanessa Williams, Angela Bassett — and Janet falls in line with these lovely ladies.  Every time I see a photo of Janet, she looks amazing.

Janet Jackson attends the Glamour Magazine 2010 Women of the Year Gala at Carnegie Hall on November 8, 2010 in New York City.

She recently cut her hair for her role in Tyler Perry’s latest , “For Colored Girls”, and continues to work the short hair with stylish aplomb.

Besides application, one of the biggest challenges with smokey eyes is product fall-out — eyeshadow falling from the upper lid to under the eye causing a big ugly mess.  Avoid this by doing the following:

1.  Prime Eyelid

Try: Too Faced Shadow Insurance $18

Apply from lash line to brow.  Rim lower eye lid as well.

2.  Apply Matte Shadow Base

Try: Wet n Wild Color Icon Palette in Greed

Apply matte beige color from lash to brow bone.

Apply peach color from lash to just above crease, blend.

Apply smoky grey from lash to crease.

Rim lower lid with the smoky grey.

3.  Apply Waterproof Black Eyeliner

Try: Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Pencil in Zero $17

Line upper lid and work black shadow into the liner for added holding power.

Line inner rim with black pencil.

4.  Apply LOTS of mascara

Try: Sephora Collection Atomic Volume Mascara in Ultra Black $15

5.  Finish with raspberry glossy lips.
