Get the Look: Ella Mai at the 2018 AMAs

2018 American Music Awards Boo’d Up nominee Ella Mai hit the red carpet with her generous mane of luscious locks taking center stage. OGX Brand Ambassador Kahh Spence created the look for Mai. Spence shares how he created the red carpet look for Mai.

INSPIRATION: For Ella’s look, we wanted to switch it up from what she is used to, our goal was to add a more elegant and dramatic touch with lots of volume.

RED CARPET: For Ella’s red carpet look, I started by applying OGX Protecting + Silky Blowout Thermal Primer Cream throughout the hair before blow drying it straight. After her hair was dry, I then used a flat iron starting at her roots to create a sleek and straight finish. I then applied OGX Natural Finish + Aspen Extract Texture Molding Paste to the sides of her hair using my hands creating a Mohawk shape and pinned the hair down. Once the sides were pinned up, I took the remaining strands of hair and put them into a ponytail. To create fullness in the ponytail, I applied additional extensions and sprayed a generous of OGX Flexible + Beeswax Texture Hairspray Wax while teasing the hair, creating extra volume throughout. To hold the ponytail in place, I used black and silver pins as a nice added touch on the sides. To finish off the look, I sprayed OGX Bodifying + Bamboo Fiber Full Big Hair Spray and applied a small amount of OGX Nourishing + Coconut Oil Weightless Hydrating Oil Mist to add even more shine and maintain frizz.
