On Tuesday the beautiful Taraji P. Henson, star of FOX’s hit show Empire, was on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. On set was celebrity makeup artist Ashunta Sheriff, who created the stunning makeup look that Taraji was wearing during her appearance. Using all Milani Cosmetics products to create the look, Ashunta shares with us a step by step guide on how to recreate it.
I started with a clean, moisturized face with primed skin before using Milani’s Smooth Finish Cream-to-Powder Makeup in Warm Honey to even out Taraji’s complexion and to create a flawless template. She’s pretty flawless already, to be honest, but this just takes it up a notch! Then I used Secret Cover Concealer Cream in Golden Beige under her eye area and to clean up any lipstick bleeding around the corners of her mouth.
Next, I primed Taraji’s lids with Eyeshadow Primer before using Shadow Eyez 12 Hr Wear Eyeshadow Pencils in Cafe Au Lait on the lids up to the crease and Champagne Toast on the inner corner of the eyes to give them a pop.
We wanted to keep the look simple, yet sleek, so I opted to use the Eye Tech Extreme Liquid Eyeliner to give a cat, winged look that is still fashion forward. This product provides precision, is waterproof, and has intense color that lasts. Also, I was sure to use the Supreme Kohl Kajal Eyeliner on her waterline to really define the eye with its super intense, black color.
Contouring is big, but strobing is the new “IT” thing to do. I softly contoured her cheeks with Secret Cover Concealer Cream that is two shades darker than her skin tone. By following the natural bone structure of her face we gave a great contour which looks chiseled and sleek. We also used this same product to slightly contour the nose. Taking the tips of my fingers I put the product on them and gently slid my fingers down the bridge of the nose until it blended in.
I love Milani’s Limited Edition Rose Powder Blush in American Beauty Rose. I applied it to the apples of Taraji’s cheeks in this look. For strobing, a technique that mimics what light naturally does, I used Baked Blush in Dolci Pink on her cheekbones, bridge of the nose, bow of the lips, and inner corner of the eyes.
To keep Taraji’s brows looking natural, I used Milani’s Stay Put Brow Color in the shade Brunette. With the angled brush provided, I followed the natural shape of her brow and sculpted it without looking overdrawn. To keep things in place, I loved using the Brow Shaping Clear Wax. It lasts all day, even through the hot lights used for filming television!
Finishing the look, I used Milani’s new Limited Edition Amore Matte Lip Creme in shade Desire. It worked amazingly with Taraji’s skin tone! Plus, with soft makeup, an edgy eye and sexy lashes, this matte lip creme is the perfect color for Fall.
