What I Learned From My Interview with Pat McGrath: Be Obsessed

I had the pleasure of interviewing the most awesome makeup artist ever—Pat McGrath, (the creative genius behind D&G and CoverGirl and the deft hand behind almost every designer ad in the glossies) during New York Fashion Week (Spring 2011).  During our interview, Pat mentioned that she was obsessed with makeup.  "You must be obsessed with what you love", Pat said.  Then next thing you know, we were off and running chatting about how we LOVE makeup.

I was so relieved to hear her say that, as I have always felt like I was slightly strange to get so excited over makeup.  From a cheapie drugstore pencil, (you know the ones under a buck) to luxe makeup from Saks or Barneys.  With that being said, I have to share my current makeup obsessions:

1.  Foundation

I don't wear foundation everyday, but when I do, I prefer a light hydrating formula that makes my skin look and feel amazing.  I currently have two foundations that are filling the bill.

The argan oil is just the ticket to feel-good skin and the matching technology satisfies the geek in me.  LOVE!

2.  Concealer

I have crazy dark circles, probably due to my own bad habit.  Not enough sleep, too much vino and not enough water intake.  So I am always totally obsessed with the perfect concealer.  For me, that means complete coverage, the right color and a creamy hydrating formula.

Tarte Dark Circle Defense™ Natural Under Eye Corrector

So not only do I suffer from dark circles, but that puffy eye thing in the mornings.  This concealer by Tarte is double-duty (another obsession) because it kills the puff and covers the darkness.  And it comes with a perfect little brush that is actually big enough to use—not like those silly little brushes in some makeup that you just need to toss upon site.

Mary Kay Concealer

I also love this Mary Kay concealer, even though I was really loathe to admit it.  BUT, it impeccably covers under eye circles and blemishes.  The pigment is gorgeous and a little goes a very long way.  And at $10 it's a steal.

3.  Blush

As I have so often said, a day without blush is a day without sunshine.  I have so many favorites, but the ultimate blush standard is one that has beautiful, long-lasting color plus illuminators.

4.  Red Lipstick

I have been a red lipstick lover since the '80s.  Right now I have three reds that I'm wearing the heck out of.
