Skin Care Review: Algenist SPLASH Absolute Hydration Replenishing Gel Moisturizer

I’m rather a fanatic about skin care, moisturizer in particular. The litmus test for me with any moisturizer I use is how long my skin looks and feels moist, as well as if there are any additional benefits to my skin from using the moisturizer. Well, right now, Algenist SPLASH Absolute Hydration Replenishing Gel Moisturizer is passing that test with flying colors!

If you want to know more…
SPLASH Absolute Hydration Replenishing Gel Moisturizer features algalyte complex—containing a red microalgae polysaccharide and skin-energizing electrolytes—which works in synergy with alguronic acid to help restore hydration levels, balance skin moisture, and improve the appearance of thin, dehydrated skin. Skin is deeply hydrated for a soft, supple, luminous, and more youthful-looking appearance.

My results:

SPLASH Absolute Hydration Replenishing Gel Moisturizer was my first introduction to the Algenist product line, and I was soooo excited to try it out. With my normal/combination skin, I was a bit curious as to how this gel moisturizer would work for the drier areas of my skin, but that was such a waste of time…

Algenist SPLASH Absolute Hydration Replenishing Gel Moisturizer is a lightweight moisturizer that almost immediately is absorbed into your skin. But, what I love so much, is that my skin still feels soft, smooth an moist to the touch, even after the moisturizer has been absorbed, and it stays that way for hours. Even when I use this moisturizer at night, I wake up with hydrated skin! I’m sure this is partially because of the use of dimethicone in the product, which I usually see in primers. Nonetheless, it helps the moisture stay in the skin.

With this lightweight, yet hydrating formula, I don’t feel like I have so much product on my skin when I apply my makeup, and that’s a plus. Additionally, even though this is a gel moisturizer, it doesn’t cause other products used on top of it to “roll.” After using this moisturizer for over 30 days, I can honestly say that my skin looks healthy and luminous without makeup.

The main reason I was so geeked about using this moisturizer is because of one of it’s main ingredients —  alguronic acid — which is extracted algae. The claims are that this ingredient is anti-aging, and I’m all about that. I have to admit, that it seems like the lines around my mouth are slightly diminished since I started using this moisturizer and the  fine lines in my forehead are barely perceptible. (I haven’t been using any other wrinkle product while using this moisturizer).
