Let’s talk about Flotus 44. Can we just stipulate that former First Lady Michelle Obama totally slayed on January 20, 2021 at the inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris? From head-to-toe Obama was so fresh, so fly, that she demanded the spotlight.

Let’s break down Michelle Obama’s inauguration style, from her fashion statement to hair, to makeup.

Obama’s Fly Fashion Statement 

Sergio Hudson, a Black American designer who has also worked with Rihanna and Beyoncé, created a monochromatic three-shades-of-plum ensemble that featured  a turtleneck, wide-legged trousers, and his signature belt gold circle buckle cinched Obama’s waist. Obama finalized the look with a statement floor-grazing plum coat, also by Hudson.

First Lady 44’s Hair

The former First Lady’s silky, bouncy curls were the center of attention across social media platforms thanks to Yene Damtew. The hairstylist, who’s worked alongside the Obamas for quite some time, just revealed how she achieved the look, which, much to my surprise, was achieved with a flatiron. Yene mentioned she doesn’t share specifics about her clients but demonstrated the technique for Obama’s curls on Instagram.

The Flawless Face

According to Teen Vogue, Carl Ray, Obama’s makeup artist used several brands to create her look, with an emphasis on Black owned brands.

Ray used Viseart Neutral Matte Eyeshadow Palette to create a seamless blend of shades on Obama’s eyelids, which he played up further with Fenty Flyiner along with Pat McGrath Labs Permagel Eyeliner in Xtreme Black. For Obama’s lashes, Ray applied Glossier Lash Slick   topped off with  Lily Lashes to  make her eyes pop.

For brows, Ray went straight to the eyebrow diva — Anastasia— with  DIPBROW Gel, Brow Definer, and Clear Brow Gel — AKA the holy trinity of all things eyebrows.

For perfectly flawless complexion, Ray applied NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, Fenty Match Stix Contour, and Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder.
