What I’m Loving Now: Shiseido Bio-Performance Advanced Super Revitalizing Cream

I never really understood my mother's affinity for moisturizer, until I hit the big 5-O.M.G.  Suddenly my skin felt like I had been kicking it homeless in the Sahara desert. After years of having oily skin, then combination skin, now having dry skin that only broke out in a sweat at the most inconvenient times was somewhat of a shock. Being peri-menopausal and losing estrogen had me freezing my kids out of the house, acting out with extreme mood swings, whiskers popping up in my chin, losing my hair/teeth/hearing (feel free to choose) and  my facial skin (among other things) was drying out.

I went from using moisturizer as an afterthought to actually craving the feel of hydration in and on my skin. Now, at 55, or I wouldn't be caught dead without my day or night moisturizer.  Moisturizing has definitely become an obsession with me.

Recently, while attending an event at  Nordstrom  San Francisco City Centre where I met  makeup artist Dick Page, I was given a goodie bag that contained some wonderful Shiseido products. One of those was Bio-Performance Advanced Super Revitalizing Cream. One look at the packaging—he box and the jar, and I knew that if nothing else, it would certainly look fabulous on my vanity.

Here are the claims for Shiseido Bio-Performance Advanced Super Revitalizing Cream:

What it is:
Prevent the first stages of line formation with this richly textured, ultra-hydrating formulation.

What it does:
Extend the look of youth by preventing the first stages of line formation. Shisedo's patent-pending Bio-Revitalizing Complex reinforces skin's elastic fibers, the key to promoting skin's resilience and firmness.

My results:
If there is such a thing as skincare "crack-in-a-jar", this Shiseido moisturizer must be it. Upon first application my skin felt so amazing. This moisturizer is luxuriously emollient, yet not at all heavy or greasy.  And not only did if feel amazing, but my skin looked amazing too.

I am always leery of moisturizers that are too rich, because they tend to sit on top of my skin. But such is not the case with this Shiseido Bio-Performance Advanced Super Revitalizing Cream.

It literally melted into my skin, gave me a radiant glow, and most importantly left my skin moist for hours on end. The scent is ever so subtly fragranced and not at all offensive.

The claims for firming the skin are true. I have been working on my nasolabial lines around my mouth and desirous of  improvement in that area. After 30 days using moisturizer, there  was a definite improvement in the depth of those lines, and I saw lifting in that area of my face.

I'm a label reader, and am pretty familiar with typical skin care ingredients and their function in various formulas.  But I saw a new one (to me) on this label—mortierella oil.  I looked it up, and it makes perfect sense that it's in a skin care product meant for building elasticity.

According to What'sinthisstuff.com, Mortierella alpina oil is rich in omega 6 fatty acids and is extracted from the Mortierella fungus. The oil has a high content of arachidonic acid, which is the foremost omega 6 fatty acid present in the brain. Arachidonic acid is also found in breast milk and plays a pivotal role in the development of the brain and nervous system in infants. Arachidonic acid is also known to possess age-reversing properties.

Uses
Bodybuilders use Mortierella alpina oil to bulk up and build muscles. It is one of the primary ingredients in baby formula and is added to mimic the health giving properties of human breast milk. Pharmaceutical companies use the oil to manufacture various diet supplements.

I have to say that I hate to see this jar empty.  But, I am willing to shell out the clams to get another one—it's wonderful.
