Skin Care Review: Your Best Face Defend Day Treatment Serum

On my quest for tighter, brighter skin, I’m have brands and products that I always find reliable. One of those is Your Best Face. Darrell Owens, the founder of the brand graciously sent me some of their new formulations and I’m so excited to share my results with you. The first product I tried was Defend Day Treatment Serum. My review follows and I have more to come!

Concentrated with photoprotective peptides and great antioxidants, encouraging brighter skin & better tone, Defend is the perfect addition to your daytime skin care routine. Defend’s active ingredients protect from damage that accumulates daily, helps maintain skin’s integrity and balances combination or oily skin. The results with daily use, ideally paired with your favorite mineral sunscreen, include firmer and more toned skin, reduced dark spots and a more resilient appearance.

My results:

I’m 60 years old chronologically, but I am often thought to be in my early 40’s (sometimes younger) due to the integrity of my skin. I’ve gone through menopause, so my skin isn’t as oily as it was when I was younger. Now it’s more of a normal to dry skin type. Defend Day Treatment Serum is formulated for combination to oily skin, but I found that it was an appropriate treatment for my skin type as well.

I use Defend Day Treatment Serum daily in the morning after cleansing—usually two – three pumps for my face and neck. (The residue I massage into my hands as is recommended) Unlike many serums, Defend Day Treatment Serum is a rich serum, not at all runny. I appreciate that as I am able to get the serum on my skin and massage it in without having it run on my face and hands.

Defend Day Treatment Serum is quickly absorbed into my skin and not at all sticky. It dries down to a moist light finish. I follow with a moisturizer containing SPF as recommended in the directions as there is no sun protection in the formula. But that’s not a bad thing…Defend Day Treatment Serum is full of good-for-your-skin ingredients like peptides, antioxidants and vitamins, and that’s what excites me about this product. It isn’t full of fillers and junk that you find in other mass marketed skin care lines.

I’m most concerned about keeping my skin firm and bright, and that’s what this serum does for my skin. Over the course of about two months, I have found that my skin is brighter and clearer with a more even tone. I have areas on my face that I’m obsessed with not sagging — my jawline and cheeks to be exact. Those areas are maintaining with a definite firmness, and I have to give credit to Defend Day Treatment Serum.

One thing I have to note is that often times, serums sting or burn, but that’s not the case at all with Defend. It is easily tolerated which I find remarkable considering the level of active ingredients included! The price may seem steep, but if you are looking to transform your skin from sun damage, excess pigmentation, and other premature aging issues, Defend is more than worth the cost.

I have to add a word of advice here: when using Defend Day Treatment Serum or any other product during the day that does not include an SPF, it’s so important to use a sunscreen.

Overall, I have seen fabulous results with my skin — brighter and firmer.

Skin Care Review: Arcona Cranberry Gommage Exfoliant

Lately, my typically clear skin has become unrecognizable. My low-maintenance facial routine couldn’t contend with my new facial issues: erupting pimples all over, stubborn dry patches on my cheeks, and oily areas on my forehead and nose. My face went completely haywire overnight it seemed, and the usual routine just wasn’t cutting it! Confession: I’ve been slacking on my sloughing-—big time. Life has been so hectic lately that I’ve pretty much abandoned my regular exfoliation routine, and it shows. When a close friend suggested I give Arcona Cranberry Gommage a try, I figured it couldn’t hurt. Little did I know, it would not only return my blemish-free visage, but give me a more even, smooth complexion over time! About Arcona Cranberry Gommage $47 Exfoliant containing cranberry extracts, volcanic minerals and essential fatty acids, to cleanse and renew all skin types. Smells berry delicious. Cleanses, tones and decongests enlarged pores, leaving skin clearer, smoother and more refined. Unclog and minimize pores with cranberry and raspberry enzymes. Exfoliate and purify skin with salicylic acid, volcanic minerals and sucrose that work deep within the follicular wall and provide antimicrobial, antibacterial benefits. My experience: Fresh out of the bottle, Arcona Cranberry Gommage is a deliciously grape-scented, lavender-hued scrub. Suggested use is twice weekly, but I reach for this exfoliant daily! more often because it’s such a treat. I can feel the difference immediately after applying Arcona Cranberry Gommage to my face and neck. I use a gentle circular scrubbing motion with the pads of my fingers. Rinsing clean, my skin feels so soft and smooth and moisturizer just glides on once I’m out of the shower.. It only took about a week of using Arcona Cranberry Gommage for me to see the results. I received a number of compliments ranging from “your skin looks so good,” and “what do you use,” to “you’re glowing!” Nothing else changed in my regimen, so I have to credit the Cranberry Gommage! While I found the scrub gentle enough for sensitive skin, it also has the right amount of grit to be effective. The polishing action instantly brightens, leaving you with fresh, glowing skin after regular use. For this reason, if you aren’t into a scrub that actually scrubs, what’s wrong with you? Arcona Cranberry Gommage might not be the product for you. Arcona Cranberry Gommage is specifically recommended for normal to oily skin, but my wacky winter combo skin got great results. Bad Beauty Habits: Chelsea Will Stop Sleeping in Her Makeup

I need to stop sleeping with make up on now! (Editor's note–story was written before the first of the year) January 1, 2012 cannot wait. My plan to kick this awful habit is to make it easier to take my make up off at night.
