Product Review—Organic Body Care: Lavanila The Healthy Deodorant in Vanilla Grapefruit

I’m in partial remission from CLL (Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia), and for me that means that I watch everything I put on my skin. It goes without saying that I am partial, even prefer organic, vegan and natural makeup, skin care, hair care and body care products.  There is much controversy about deodorant containing aluminum being linked to breast cancer.

Well, I’m not going to debate the studies, pro and con, but I do choose to eliminate any suspected carcinogens from my beauty routine.  That’s why I was very excited to try Lavanila The Healthy Deodorant in Vanilla Grapefruit.

Here are the details about Lavanila The Healthy Deodorant in Vanilla Grapefruit:

Lavanila The Healthy Deodorant in Vanilla GrapefruitWhat it is:

A clinical-strength deodorant that is 100 percent natural, safe, and effective.

What it is formulated to do:

LAVANILA The Healthy Deodorant uses beta-glucan technology to effectively fight odor while soothing, conditioning, and strengthening the skin. It goes on clean, with no sticky wetness, and delivers long-lasting, luxurious results.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:

– Parabens
– Sulfates
– Synthetic Dyes
– Petro-Chemicals
– Phthalates

What else you need to know:

This dermatologist-recommended, non-irritating, allergy-tested formula does not contain aluminum or mineral oils.

My results:

As a 50 something, with ongoing hot flashes, I am constantly sweating.  Not just my forehead, my scalp, and other places I will not mention, but my underarms.  Now, this The Healthy Deodorant is not an antiperspirant, so it is not designed to stop sweating.  It is, however, according to its claims a “clinical strength” deodorant.

I have to admit, I was curious as to how something that smelled so fresh, without chemicals could work with the same efficacy as deodorants with aluminum.  All antiperspirants have an aluminum-based compound as their main ingredient. If you look at the back of an antiperspirant container, the aluminum-based compound is always the first ingredient listed. Here are a few of the common active ingredients:

  • Aluminum chloride
  • Aluminum zirconium tricholorohydrex glycine
  • Aluminum chlorohydrate
  • Aluminum hydroxybromide

While using The Healthy Deodorant I had a absence of underarm odor for several hours. And since I’m a “healthy” girl, I swipe this deodorant under my boobies and a few other selected areas without worry of chemicals irritating and penetrating my skin.

The scent is fresh and clean, not overwhelming or artificial.  I love the size product and the “push-up” packaging.  With everyday use, The Healthy Deodorant lasts much longer than any drugstore brand chemically laden deodorant I have purchased in the past.

My perspiration was even minimal, although this is not a benefit the brand claims.  I think this is a great “starter” deodorant for young girls as well as one I would recommend to any women limiting  her contact with chemically laden beauty products.  Additionally, I would recommend anyone with cancer to give this deodorant a try.

Bling Factor:

Pro: Chemical free, eliminates odor, lovely scent

Con: Pricey, other organic deodorants are less expensive

Price: $14

Packaging: 4 Blings

Overall: 5 Blings

I’m going to have to give this a try. I can’t stand the fact that I’m putting aluminum under my arms near my lymph nodes everyday. Yuck!
