How about a Red Lipstick for Summer?

I love red lipstick.  Back to the days when I thought I was Sade with my overly defined superdark eye brows, pony tail and MAC Russian Red lipstick up to today, I’m still a red lipstick freak.  I must have a dozen in regular rotation, not to mention the ones in my professional kit.  NARS and Chanel do red well.  Every well-manicured, painted woman must have a red for every occasion.  Don’t get me wrong, I love a nude lip, and that is probably my day-to-day look as opposed to my look 20 odd years ago.  But when you are feeling low, need to spice it up, to put some pep in your step, put on some  red lips girlfriend.

As a makeup artist I am always asked the question of “what’s the right red for me?”, but I think that’s fodder for another blog post.  One pet peeeve I do have is overdoing the eye makeup when you are wearing red lips.  Keep the eyes clean and simple.  They can be dramatic and defined, but let the lips do the talking.  I love the  red lips on this model for a photoshoot I did.

However, my delimma is finding the perfect red for summer.  It can’t be too blue or too matte.  A true red, Crayola red, but I need a luscious sheer red.  Somewhere between a gloss and a creamy lipstick.  My work is cut out for me.  I have to find the perfect blinging  red lipstick.

So far I love Dior Addict Flamenco Red 754 (sheer cherry red) at $26.  Ouch.  However the case is tres chic and has that little click thing going on, but i’m now wearing the case.   Then there is Tarte 24/7 Lip Sheer SPF 15 in Monday.  It’s pretty, very pretty and the price is right for $14.   But I think I have decided on Josie Maran lipstick in Devious, a sheer cherry  red.  Why?
