Fall Trend 2009 Thick Eyebrows — The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Who comes to mind when you think of thick eyebrows? Sade?  Brooke Shields?  Groucho Marx? I think of all the them– the good, the bad and the ugly. Sade  (the good), one of my all-time fashion favorites rocked the thick brows back in the day with a vengence.  I of course tried to emulate her style — eyebrows, red lips and pony tail.  What’s amazing to me, is that her look is still au courant.  Brooke Shields (the bad) also rocked the thick eyebrows back in the day, as a matter of fact they became her trademark.  I don’t love them on her though, especially now that she has aged.  A slightly thinner brow would give some lift her face and open her eyes.  Brooke are you reading this blog?  Groucho (the ugly), nough said.

Fuller brows were featured on the runway as a trend for fall 2009. What does that mean for those of us who are slaves to waxing, trimming and tweezing our brows on a regular basis?  Well, if we opt in to this trend, it means that we have to let our brows grow in a bit — which I know is oh so painful.  But, in the meantime, you can fill them in.

Check out the wearable full brows on the runway.

How to get the look

1.  Shape

Start by combing the brow hairs straight up with a brow brush or a toothbrush.
Once you can see the natural line of your brows, use brow or manicure scissors to trim hairs that extend above that line.

Clean up the undersides of your brows using tweezers.

2.  Fill in

If you have over-tweezed, sparse or thin brows:

Use a wax-based brow pencil or brow wax/powder to fill in any holes.

Draw the pencil onto the bald spots and over the rest of the brow using short, light strokes.

Blend and soften the pencil you’ve applied by going over your brow several times with a brow brush.
