DIY: Give Yourself a Brightening Facial

If you are suffering from the winter blues, brighten up with an exfoliating facial that will not only uplift your spirits, but give your skin a boost.  Rather than splurging on a facial treatment that may cost you well over $100, invest in a few key beauty products that you will use them again and again, which in the long-run will save you a few dollars.  Next just grab a few items from your kitchen and you are ready for a facial that rivals one from your favorite esthetician.

1.  Prep

√ Wash your face with a mild cleanser.

Try: Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser $7.99

√ Mist with a calming solution made with 1 tablespoon lemon juice diluted with 1 cup of water.

√ Deep clean pores.

Try:  Panasonic Pore Cleanser $39.99

2.  Exfoliate & Mask

√ Apply a thin layer of glycolic acid serum over your face.

Try: Renée Rouleau Glycolic Serum $41

√ Apply a mask made of 1/2 cup mashed papaya, 1 teaspoon yogurt and 1 teaspoon honey.

√ Apply your favorite de-puffing eye cream under eyes.

Try: Garnier Nutritioniste Skin Renew Anti-Puff Eye Roller $13.49

√ Put thin cucumber slices or chilled (used) tea bags over eyes.

Take a 15 minute snooze!

3.  Treat

√ For an extra brightening boost, make your own fading solution from equal parts strawberries and baking soda made into a paste.  Allow to dry then rinse.

√ Finish with a pigment correcting serum and light moisturizer.

Try: IMAN Skin Tone Evener $15.99

Try: Avalon Organics Vitamin C Rejuvenating Oil-Free Moisturizer $19.99
