CeleBeauty Watch: Get the Look—Lucy Liu’s Makeup from NYX for the 2013 Golden Globe Awards

Lucy Liu, actress and star of the hit show Elementary, stepped onto the red carpet of the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards showcasing a soft and natural look created by Celebrity Makeup Artist Kristofer Buckle using NYX Cosmetics. Wearing a beautiful, structured floral dress by Carolina Herrera, Buckle wanted to keep her makeup look innocent and fresh. “I wanted to create a pristine and classic look without forgetting about the Hollywood glam factor of the Golden Globes!” said Buckle.

Complexion:
To ensure the durability of Lucy’s makeup, Buckle started the look with NYX HD Studio Photogenic Primer. He paired the primer with the NYX HD Studio Photogenic Foundation in Soft Beige for full coverage without weight to bring out Lucy’s beautiful skin and natural complexion. Buckle then touched up Lucy’s look with NYX Concealer Wand in Medium where needed and then set the foundation with NYX HD Studio Photogenic Finishing Powder.

Cheeks:
To create the perfect red-carpet glow, Buckle did light contouring on the sides of Lucy’s cheekbones and down her nose with the NYX Matte Bronzer in Medium. For a touch of color, he applied NYX Powder Blush in Rose Garden on the apples of Lucy’s cheeks. Buckle then swept the NYX Illuminator in Chaotic high on her cheeks to maintain the soft and fresh look that would reflect perfectly off the bright lights of the cameras.

Eyes:
To amplify Lucy’s beautiful eyes, Buckle applied the new NYX Natural Shadow Palette in various shades of white, cream, and brown. He then swept the NYX Single Eye Shadow in Black on the outsides of her eyes to give them more dimension and definition. Buckle then added a few NYX Fabulous Lashes in Flare Lash Medium to create fullness and length, and then used the NYX Doll Eye Mascara heavily on her top lashes. To complete the look, Buckle filled in Lucy’s top lash line with NYX The Curve.

Lips:
To not take away from the intensity of Lucy’s beautiful Carolina Herrera gown, Buckle finished her look with a soft pink lip color using NYX Xtreme Lip Cream in Candy Land.

Product Review—Hair: Phyto Secret de Nuit Intense Hydration Regenerating Night Cream

I have never used Phyto products before, when I received the Phyto Secret De Nuit to review, I thought it was a night cream for my face. Phyto Secret de Nuit Intense Hydration Regenerating Night Cream – the name and description screams FACE product to me, but to my delight, I received a wonderful night cream for my hair. Here are the details for Phyto Secret de Nuit Intense Hydration Regenerating Night Cream $38: What it is: A night restorative treatment for all hair types. What it is formulated to do: This powerful night cream regenerates the hair fiber and provides up to eight hours of intense hydration, nourishment, and repair. It creates a protective shield against free radicals and oxidation, and leaves hair feeling remarkably stronger, healthier, and shiner. What it is formulated WITHOUT: • Parabens • Sulfates • Phthalates My results: Before I put a new product on my face, I like to smell it. I pumped a small amount on my fingers so I could check the consistency and to take a whiff, see what I’m working with. The texture is nice and creamy with a light, lovely fragrance. I applied the small amount I had on my fingers to my face and went about the rest of my day. Imagine my surprise when I read the directions and realized this product is applied to your hair…oops! I’ve never used a night conditioner on my hair and to be honest, I was thinking I don’t want to go to bed with wet hair and wake up to a pillowcase covered in a gooey mess. Our editor-in-chief doesn’t allow the quick answer of ‘no’ for a product. Just as we have to review and say why we like a product, we also have to say why not. I knew I had to give it a try because like it or hate it, I had to say – why either way. The bottle has a pump dispenser, which dispenses the cream in small amounts. To get the ‘hazelnut’ size amount of product the directions call for, it takes about 3-4 pumps. I apply the cream to my hair by simply combing through my hair with my fingers, the cream absorbs quickly and does not leave my hair feeling wet. I repeat the process concentrating on the ends oh my hair, where I have the most damage and then twist it up in a bun before going to bed. The next morning, style as usual. I am thoroughly impressed. My hair truly feels like it has been intensively nourished, with my ends feeling silky and my hair in general feeling soft. I have found with my hair it’s best not to use the Phyto Secret de Nuit Intense Hydration Regenerating Night Cream on the day I have washed my hair, it does make my hair feel dirtier sooner, but that could be me using too much product as a little seems to go a long way; about third day is perfect for me. I didn’t look at the price of this product before I used it, but honestly, the cost is worth it. It actually works and my hair feels as if it is being repaired, not just masking my frizzed ends. It is paraben and silicone free also, and packed with good natural ingredients to replenish the condition of my hair. I use this 3-4 times a week and the condition of my hair has really improved – I couldn’t be happier. I now want to try other products from Phyto. Bad Beauty Habits: We Resolve to Break Them…At Least Try

Sexy crooner Maxwell sang about "Bad Habits," and we all have them. As the beauty veteran at Blinging Beauty, I know I need to practice what I preach. But I don't. Not all the time at least. Unfortunately for me, I have this "all or nothing" issue—either I'm going like gangbusters, or I'm totally DONE! So I'm all over doing the right thing with my hair/skin/body, or I'm just a flat out #loser. I'm trying to learn moderation in all things, and at the ripe old age of 54, to stay on top of my beauty habits. So, I forced asked my Bling Team members to share one bad beauty habit—or maybe that should be non-beauty habit— that they are going to try to squelch this year. Since I am at the helm of this ship, I figure it's only fair that I'm the first to divulge my bad habits. While I only asked them to talk about one, I'm going to spill the beans—I'm sharing my top 10 non-beauty habits. Drum roll please…. 10. Sleeping in makeup. 9. Not sleeping enough. 8. Going to bed with my hair wet (looks really bad when I wake up). 7. Using that tacky razor thing on my eyebrows between visits — I'm already doing better with this one, but I'm starting to resemble Brooke Shields. 6. Not drinking enough water. 5. Picking and tweezing my whiskers (I'm 54, it's a reality). 4. Frowning—it's a family thing, but I noticed I'm getting a permanent furrow in the middle of my otherwise line-less forehead. Booooooo! 3. Applying mascara and driving. This is more of a safety issue… even though I can do it without looking in the rearview mirror. 2. Drinking coffee all day. It's dehydrating, I know, but I really love it. And the biggest, nastiest, grossest habit I have… 1. Picking my cuticles. It's really bad. Every time I get my manicure, Tanya (my regular manicurist) says to me, "Tracey, you stress me out. Why you bite your cuticles?" Well, that answer is simple, I stress myself out. That's why. So with that being said, I'm cutting out stress from my life. Cut the stress, gain beauty, get ungnarly cuticles.
