Product Review: Pulse by Beyoncé

While Pulse is supposed to be the epitome of Beyonce's Sasha Fierce persona, this particular installment in the Beyoncé's perfume portfolio has left my pulse in slow motion.

I've never been a huge Beyoncé fragrance fan. How  could  she be the sophisticated face and voice of Giorgio Armani's Emporio Armani Diamonds and fail to convey that elegance to Heat and Heat Rush? The ads for both Heat and Heat Rush seem contrived instead of effortless.  Maybe she's too hot—remember she was dripping sweat in the commercials!

So, while I wasn't in love with the Pulse ads,  the fragrance itself actually surprised me…somewhat. The opening notes are very strong—reminiscent of Heat.

Here's a description of Pulse:

The fragrance opens with sparkling top notes of pear blossom, frozen bergamot and accord of Blue Curacao liqueur. The heart features Bluebird orchid, for the first time used in a fragrance. There are also notes of delicate peony and intensive midnight blooming jasmine. The base is warm, sensual and irresistible, made with Madagascar vanilla, musk and precious woods.

My impression:

Pulse applies strong but doesn't last long—for me it barely lasted an hour. Since  Pulse is an Eau de Parfum, I had hoped that it would be long-wearing. Unfortunately, that was not the case.  My "Pulse" died a fast death.  You'll definitely need to layer this over the matching body lotion or your favorite unscented lotion. However, I actually preferred the drydown of Pulse over Heat because I could clearly smell the Madagascar vanilla whispering on my skin.

Bling Factor:

Pro: Pleasant smelling– from the opening to the base notes.

Con: Does not last long for an eau de parfum.

Buy Again: Maybe

Price: $$

Packaging: 4 Blings—the fragrance is a little difficult to pull out of the silver pod.

Overall: 4 Blings

I have been thinking about buying Pulse for a few weeks now – I had reservations about Heat but I bought it and loved it – and people told me they can smell it on me even though I felt like I couldn’t.

Though the only thing I’d like to point out about your review is you said that Pulse has to be worn with lotion or unscented lotion. You should always wear perfume with lotion so the oils have something to ‘stick’ to so that could be a reason why it seemed like Pulse did not last as long.

      Hi Kagem,

Thank you for your comment! You see, whenever I wear perfume, I rarely apply lotion as other eau de parfums that I love seem to last on the skin for quite a while (on me) without applying anything else. However, I see now that this is not the case with Pulse and will be buying the accompanying lotion to see if it indeed helps.

Please tell us how you like Pulse when you buy it and thanks again for commenting!

Hi I’m back – I got Pulse around Christmas time and I found it to be this citrusy and crisp fragrance. I also got the lotions and shower gel for Pulse in a gift set.

I liked it a lot that I ordered the gift set again as it was half price. I like Heat Rush more but Pulse has a fresher, more spring feel to it which is nice for day perfumes.
        3/5 stars.

I'd love to hear your thoughts!
