Product Review—Makeup: Tarte Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer in Deep Tan

I have been a fan of tinted moisturizers before there were tinted moisturizers. Being such the mixologist I am, I have been mixing foundation and moisturizer for years in the palm of my hand—creating my own tinted moisturizer. However, when I was doing that, there wasn’t a beauty product in a bottle called “tinted moisturizer.” Now, there are hundreds of them. Most cleverly disguised as a BB or CC cream now.

Recently, I was sent Tarte Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer in Deep Tan to try. I pretty much knew I would love it based on my fondness of tinted moisturizers and my love of all things Tarte.

A light-to-medium coverage, oil-free tinted moisturizer that delivers a natural, sheer finish to revitalize all skin types while the SPF 20 protects your skin against the sun’s harmful rays. While it works with all skin types, this oil-free tinted moisturizer is ideal for tartelettes with normal to combination skin.

My results:

As tinted moisturizers should be, Tarte Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer is sheer with pretty amazing coverage. The color imparts a even tone to my skin without it looking like I’m wearing any makeup. The lightweight formula is wonderful as you forget that you are indeed wearing makeup.

Tinted moisturizers are “forgiving” which is why I love to recommend them for younger women starting out with makeup or women who have great skin and need very little coverage. Tarte Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer fills the bill of being forgiving in the color and coverage arena as well. I was able to build a bit of coverage under my eyes by applying with a sponge, while I simply used my fingertips to blend over the rest of my face.

I used the color Tan-Deep, which was a shade too dark, and I should have known that as I wear Tan in the Tarte line. However, it wasn’t bad at all. I look like I have spent a weekend in the sun when I wear this tinted moisturizer. I had remarks like, “Ohhhh, you got a nice tan.” Really? I guess that’s a good thing!

I happen to wear a moisturizer with sunscreen under this one, because I’m aging and believe in a high SPF and LOTS of moisture, but for everyday without too much sun exposure, an SPF 20 such as in Tarte Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer is just fine.
