Product Review—Makeup: Dermablend Smooth Indulgence Concealer

Instead of pretty, unblemished skin with a hint of a glow, I’m the poster child for adult acne with numerous post-acne scars. So I usually gravitate towards creamy, highly pigmented, full-coverage concealers.

Dermablend has been on my list of brands for years, I never thought my first experience would be a liquid concealer as I’ve had better experiences with cream concealers. So I admit I was a bit skeptical whether this Dermablend concealer would satisfy me.

Regardless of the possibility of retouched or airbrushed ads, I diligently tested Dermablend Smooth Indulgence Concealer in Mocha with high hopes.

Here is the claim for Dermablend Smooth Indulgence Concealer:

Medium coverage concealer for minor to moderate localized skin flaws. Provides twice the coverage of a classic concealer for up to 12 hours of wear (16 hours of wear with Setting Powder).

A soft touch to skin, Smooth Indulgence Concealer evens complexion and won’t enhance fine lines or surface imperfections. Provides all day hydration with SPF 20 Sunscreen.

My results:

Mocha turned out to be a perfect match, thoroughly covering my minor and moderate localized skin flaws as it claimed. For my more severe scars, I turned to my favorite cream concealer. While I dabbed and tapped, I noticed the Dermablend Smooth Indulgence Concealer did not provide twice the coverage as I originally hoped—it covered just the same as my “classic” concealer.

However, true to their claims, Smooth Indulgence made my skin feel soft and smooth all the while flawlessly concealing my pesky imperfections. I was initially worried that this concealer would enhance some of my surface imperfections throughout the day but this did not happen, thank goodness!

As the major icing on my cake, my skin feel hydrated and stayed protected with the inclusion of SPF 20.

Bling Factor:

Pros: Highly pigmented, has SPF 20, evens complexion, doesn’t enhance fine lines or surface imperfections, is blendable before it dries completely, skin is soft and hydrated

Cons: Does not provide twice the coverage of a classic concealer, sort of expensive
