My Pharmaca Shopping Experience and a $50 Gift Card Giveaway

It’s no secret that I am a skin care aficionado.  I’m a licensed esthetician, and have worked with some of the best skin care lines made.  I am also a lover of organic skin care products, which is why I love shopping at my local neighborhood Pharmaca. (Right on College Ave. in Oakland, Pharmaca Rockridge)  So, I was quite delighted to receive a gift card to do a little shopping in the store and write about my experience.

I love the selection of products in the beauty department at Pharmaca—several lines that I have used and on my latest shopping expedition, I found others that are new to me, and that always makes me happy! I love that like a traditional drug store, there are inexpensive brands on the shelves, but with organic and green options.  I can get buy Band Aids while stocking up on my favorite Nubian Heritage soaps.

I can browse makeup and purchase gorgeous cards from Papyrus or a selection of good-for-you teas.  With dark chocolate on the shelves near the magazines, I get to indulge two of my addictions in one fell swoop—picking up my latest glossy and allowing myself the gift of heart healthy chocolate.  There are estheticians on staff who perform services and answer questions regarding products and skin care.

Among the brands that I am fond of that are carried in Pharmaca are Jane Iredale, Dr. Hauschka, Astara, Nature’s Gate, Jurlique, Juice Beauty, Avalon Organics, Ahava, Kiss my Face, Alba Botanica and more. On this trip I found a few brands that I am more than curious about: Love & Toast – Looks like a brand my 16 year old daughter would love, as well as my teen interns.  I also skin care brands Devita, Evan Healy, Andalou Naturals, and Peter Lamas skin care (already a fan of his hair care) and newness from Alba Botanica.

My shopping experience:

I am a regular at the Oakland Rockridge Pharmaca (right next door to Trader Joe’s), it’s a couple blocks from my home and I walk there frequently.  I have to admit that I’m not the easiest customer to assist when it comes to browsing, but I do like assistance when I have a question.  The esthetician on staff when I did my shopping was friendly enough, offering me and another woman in the department assistance.

I was content to do my own browsing without interference, while the other woman shopping received assistance with makeup.  I do have to say though, that I was dying to jump in the conversation when the esthetician couldn’t properly answer the question “What is a CC Cream?”…

I bought a ton of goodies with my $50 Phamaca gift card including a nifty Eco Tools Brush with a pencil sharpener on the end—Genius! I got a stick of Seaweed Bath & Co. Foot Balm which I am using with my Eco Tools moisturizing socks at night.

I also snagged two Love & Toast Lip Balms for my girls along with A– with Moroccan Argan Stem Cells, 3 bars of Nubian Heritage Soaps and of course a chocolate bar.

I will continue to shop and Pharmaca, and if you love natural, organic beauty, you would love shopping there too.

My goodies:

So, I’m happy to offer a $50 Gift Card to one Blinging Beauty reader. A little caveat, you have to use the card in store, so this giveaway is limited to those within reach of a Pharmaca.  Or, if you have a friend or relative that lives in a city that has a Pharmaca, it would make a great gift.  Here are the states that Pharmaca serves: California, Colorado, Washington, Oregon and New Mexico.  Here is a link to see where exact stores are located: http://www.pharmaca.com/stores.aspx.
