Monday Morning Makeup: Benefit Fake Up Concealer-Double Duty Coverage

Mondays are not the best day of the week for me.  But, I have to rise and grind and look my best in a hot minute.  One item that I must have in my makeup arsenal at all times is concealer. I suffer from “deep shadows” better knows as dark circles.  So, I have a two-fold challenge in combating my Monday morning  makeup blues with concealer–one that covers and simultaneously hydrates.

Well, I happened to find that concealer at the Benefit Cosmetics Boutique on Chestnut St. in San Francisco when they launched their new Fake Up Concealer.  I love the Benefit Launch Parties, and this one was no less fun.  I will get to that in a minute.  In the meantime, here are the details on Fake up:

What it does: Cover-up goes incognito. This moisturizing crease-control concealer with vitamin E and apple seed extract hides dark circles and diffuses fine lines for a silky smooth, ultranatural look. Available in three shades, it’s proven to keep skin hydrated for six hours and won’t cake, crease, or settle.

My results:

I have a particular fondness for concealer that comes from a tube– it’s easy to apply and easy to get just right amount. All too often, with a tube concealer, I tend to squeeze out way more than I use.

There is no creasing or product piling up under your eyes with Fake Up.  That’s a major turn off for me as a consumer and as a professional makeup artist.

The concealer color itself comes in limited colors — light, medium and dark– which can make finding a match daunting for a brown girl, but that wasn’t the case for me.  I tried this out with my BFFS at the launch party in San Francisco a few months ago.  We span the spectrum of brown and we all could match either the medium or the dark.  I think that’s because this concealer is lightweight and forgiving.

Applied over foundation, it gives a medium coverage.  So, if you have major dark circles, I would suggest using a full coverage foundation first, then layering with your Fake Up.

I found that my eye area remains hydrated for hours and that the concealer does a decent job of covering the dark areas under my eyes when applied over foundation.

Marna, who also attended the launch event said, “I liked the coverage from the concealer. The added moisture kept my sensitive under eye area moisturized without being greasy.”  Qiana concurred, “I like the fact that its moisturizing and it blends with my complexion.”

Bling Factor: Pro: hydrating, lightweight, perfect for light-to-medium coverage Con: limited color selection, not for dark circles Price: $24 Buy Again: No — I personally need more coverage in a concealer, this one is perfect for someone who needs light to medium coverage Packaging: 5 Blings – Love the way the moisturizer encases the concealer, and the tube us cute, like all of Benefit’s packaging Overall: 4 Blings

At the launch event we were treated to champagne, free brow waxing and makeovers.  And, we were sent on a fun scavenger hunt:
