If you growing out your beard for Movember, you may need some advice on the best way to go from full beard to clean shaven. Here are a few tips to get you back to ground zero.
1. Mow it Down
Use an electric shaver (without the guard) or a set of clippers to lower your beard to a manageable length. Continue to prep your face by rinsing it with hot water or better yet, take a hot steamy shower before and applying a pre-shave oil to minimize irritation.
2. Get a Close Shave
It’s always best to shave at the end of a shower to soften the beard and open the pores. Use a high quality shaving cream, like the ones we suggest below and sharp razor. Lather your face and, using your free hand, stretch the skin tight. Shave carefully with the grain (the direction of the hair growth). Rinse your face and visually check for any rough spots — if everything looks smooth, stop. If you need to touch up any spots, apply more shave cram and shave with the grain. Since it’s been awhile since you’ve shaved, avoid shaving against the grain and trying to get too close. Once you’ve finished, rinse the face with a splash of cool water.
