Circumspect Sundays: I’m Not a Chick Flick Chick

My BFF and I went to see Julie and Julia this weekend. I loved it.  That was pretty surprising because I am just not a chick flick chick.  The one exception may be Themla and Louise.   Forget all that Jane Austen, Jennifer Aniston feel good stuff cutsie cutsie stuff — I hate it.  I like action, drama, mystery.  If a chick is involved, she better be kicking some butt.  That probably explains my secret fantasy to be a Bond girl.  Anyway…

I loved Julie and Julia for several reasons.  For one, I think I was smiling  throughout the entire movie.  Wow, what a concept.  Then as soon as Julie said that perhaps she had ADD because she never finished anything and could not keep her house tidy, she had me hook, line and sinker.  Hello kindred spirit!

I loved the chemistry between Julia and her husband.  Amazing.  I loved Julia’s passion for food and cooking.  I loved her dedication to finishing a project.  I loved that she was so beautiful despite her gangling,  awkward physique.

I loved Julie’s desire to FINISH something — cooking for 365 days straight and her blogging about it.

That brings me to why this movie was so important to me. Watching Julie and Juila was a reminder as to why I started blogging in the first place.  I love to write.  And my most inward desire is to be a beauty editor.  So I decided, if ESSENCE doesn’t want me (look out Miki Taylor), I will do it on my own!  Second, I am so ridiculously obsessed with lipstick and lotion and zit preparations, that marrying my love of beauty products (yes, I get a high even walking down the deoderant aisles of Walgreens) with my love of the written world was the perfect union.

So Julie gave me impetus to blog everyday for 90 days. I’m not doing that 365 day thing that she did, heck no.  I would probably have a major melt down if I commited to that, and then there would be yet another project that I didn’t finish — like my 3 book, screenplay and various other assorted writings…  So this is the deal, no more ads on my site.  A strict schedule of meaningful blogging.  That’s my goal. Cheer me on folks!

So I was all moved by Julie and Julia, but don’t get me wrong, I’m buying in to those tear-jerker, I-love-you-and-will-never-leave-you-even-if-I-die movies.  Nope. I’m first in line for 007.  We even share a zest for the same libation — shaken, not stirred.
