Essentially, this is a fishtail french braid. Let’s go!

1) Begin with a side part of your choice and push hair to the opposite side. (i.e. Parted on the left side? Push all hair to the right shoulder.)

2) THE BRAID:
a) Begin with two medium sized pieces at the top of your part. We’ll call this left and right, left being closest to the face.

Take a small piece of the left strand, closest to the hairline, and cross it over to the right strand. Repeat steps with the right side.Take the outermost piece of the right strand and and cross over the top, adding to the left strand. Got it? Like jump roping Double Dutch!

b) Starting the french bit…

While grabbing a piece from the left, add in an extra piece from your hair line. Cross them both to the right side. Section a piece from the right, add an extra piece from the right and cross them both to the left. Continue! It’s worth it! Repeat until you run out of hair.

3) Secure the bottom with a small elastic band.

4) After all of your hard work…. You now need to mess it up! LIGHTLY tug tiny sections of the braid to loosen it for the tussled look.

5) Pomade edges if necessary. Hair spray that bad boy and step back to see your good work!

Phew! We made it out alive right?

Don’t leave us out of the loop. Let us know how you rocked this style!

Now high heel it out of here with a Bling and a smile.

This looks gorgeous and fun. Kerry Washington is so beautiful and I love when she goes with hairstyles with lots of volume up in the front. I am such a fan of big voluminous hair so I love to see that volume incorporated into a style like this. The fishtail braid seems to be so popular right now and it really does look good on just about everyone. I love that this style was used on the red carpet and that it was given a little extra something by sweeping it all to one side. Thank you Camille for the rundown and the recommended products to re-create this style.

I'd love to hear your thoughts!
