Friday Find: Carol’s Daughter Monoi Repairing Shampoo and Conditioner

I love summer, but it has an especially brutal way of wreaking havoc on hair. Harsh sun, high winds, fluctuating temps, humidity, and exposure to stripping pool and sea water can combine to do some serious damage this sunny season. Not to mention of course, stress from everyday styling, which can take tired tresses to the breaking point!

Per usual this time of year, my locks were in desperate need of some TLC! Instead of my usual deep conditioning routine, I decided to try something new.

Carol’s Daughter recently introduced a product line infused with fragrant Tahitian Monoi oil, long prized for its healing and protective properties. It is formulated to restore damaged and color treated hair whether relaxed or natural. The Monoi Repairing System claims to reduce breakage after only a single use!

Both the shampoo and conditioner feature several super humectants and hair-building proteins to offer protection from harmful UV rays, soften hair and defend it against exposure to the elements.

Why I love it:

The Monoi Repairing Shampoo had a nice consistency, lathered well and cleansed gently without leaving that stripped feeling. And did I mention the amazing smell of tiare blossoms? Divine. I was concerned about buildup in my locks with such a rich, creamy combo, but they worked wonderfully. My hair felt clean and well-hydrated after use and I didn’t have to use a ton of conditioner to replace lost moisture.

The real star product of the pair is the Monoi Repairing Conditioner, which I loved! Because my hair was so dry, I applied the conditioner, put on a plastic cap, and voila! Unbelievably soft and silky locks in under 15 minutes. I’m sure my results would have been even more impressive if I had time to add heat to the equation. I did the same with my daughter's loose, natural hair and it made her coils much more manageable.

The only drawback for me so far is the cost. At $20 a pop, I’m reluctant to use this conditioner too frequently as it will get expensive.

So far, I really like this line and will be trying the Monoi Repairing Hair Masque next, another splurge at $29. If this pair is too rich for your blood, a great budget combo is the Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Creamy Aloe Shampoo and Replenishing Conditioner, about $5 each, which will also refresh parched manes.

Bad Beauty Habits: Chelsea Will Stop Sleeping in Her Makeup

I need to stop sleeping with make up on now! (Editor's note–story was written before the first of the year) January 1, 2012 cannot wait.
