NYFW Fall 2012 Recap: Texture on the Runway
One of the best nights during New York Fashion Week was the Texture on the Runway show and networking event. Held at City Winery (which was right up this red wine lover's alley), this hair event celebrated textured hair from kinky to wavy, coily to curly. Additionally, we were able to visit with vendors from several hair brands that cater to textured hair.
Sponsored by Modern Salon and hosted by Taren Guy, of YouTube notoriety, Texture on the Runway was a one-of-a-kind event that celebrated natural hair. I interviewed Reginald Mitchell, director of education for the Curls Unleashed creative team.
Mitchell's words about textured hair resonated with the audience. “It’s all about curls unleashed, it’s about texture, it’s about volume, it’s about attitude, it's about the combination of haute couture and coiffure… thank God almighty, hair is free at last!”
The audience was full of natural hair "celebs" including Kim Coles and Patrice from Afrobella.com. I have never seen such an amazing room full of natural textured hair in my entire life.
Blinging Beauty's Team 20/20 writer Chelsea, who attended with me, was excited to chat with the folks from Curls, one of her favorite brands for keeping her hair naturally curly. (read her review here)
And of course, the swag bags were great—packed with goodies from Matrix, Arrojo, Minardi, and Hair Rules!
