I love being a makeup artist. Sometimes it’s all about the art of transformation. Other times, it’s about the art of making someone happy. It’s about the power of touch. It’s about the power of color.

I have to say that I enjoy both sides, but on occasion, making someone happy, way out-weighs making an already pretty model even more gorgeous. I had that opportunity a few weeks ago when I was honored to do Clara Mae’s makeup.

Clara Mae is 93 years old and as spunky as a naughty teenager. Sharp as a tack, sweet as pie but with a tongue a bit on the stinging side and wit that can stand up to the Kings of Comedy, Clara Mae is a delight to be around. As a matter of fact, she is so darn funny you may need Depends for insurance… Clara Mae reminds me so much of my granny that she really touched my heart.

Clara Mae’s high cheekbones, hazel eyes and lovely smile tell of a beauty that was once breathtaking. Naturally it was a pleasure to do her makeup.

I started with brightening and evening her skin with Clarins Radiance Boosting Complexion Base in Champagne then added a touch of color with Milani Blush to her high cheekbones. Clarins Opalesence Face & Blush Powder put the finishing touches on her complexion.

With hazel eyes, there were several ways I could play up Clara Mae’s eyes. I used a palette from Lancôme that highlighted a touch of green in her sparkling eyes. Soft lavender across the lid, and a light lining with the violet shadow perked those peepers right up. A touch of Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes! Mascara made her gray lashes stand out. Finishing touch was Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tint in Sweet for her lips.

 Last report, I heard that Clara Mae is still wearing her lipstick and watching her movies. That makes my heart glad.
