Budget Beauty Tuesday: Product Review — L’Oréal Telescopic Explosion Mascara

I love mascara. I should be a little more specific — I have a love affair with L’Oréal Voluminous mascara.  I mean I’m more than slightly obsessed. I’m have to hold myself back from having that over-done Tyra Banks look.

And I’m no mascara virgin — I’ve been around the block.  I used to be a freak for Lancome mascara, but I left it for Chanel mascara. Chanel was close to my heart for some time, but I still had a wandering eye.  I just couldn’t be loyal to Chanel — I checked out many a black mascara in search of one that would do it all.

LOreal Telescopic Explosion Mascara

One day my eye settled upon L’Oréal Voluminous mascara and it was love at first application.  Voluminous does it all — lengthens, thickens, lifts and doesn’t smudge. That was a few years ago, and I admit, I still check out the competition, but I am committed to  true love — Voluminous.

Recently, L’Oréal came out with Telescopic Explosion Mascara and I bit.  I was fascinated with that weird little wand (which curiously looks like the wand of the much pricier Givenchy Phenomen’Eyes Effet Extension) and wondering how that little thing got Penelope Cruz’s eyelashes so long.  Well, after taking me about 5 minutes to get my eyelashes looking like they do with one sweep of Voluminous, I came to the conclusion that Penelope’s eyelashes must already by long and lush.

Givenchy PhenomenEyes Effet Extension

Why I didn’t like it:

I don’t like that I have to stroke my eyelashes so many times to get them to look full and thick. That little head on that wand was disappointing.

What I did like:

One redeeming factor about the wand is that is makes it easy to get tiny lashes on the inner eye, but then that can easily be accomplished by simply using the tip of an ordinary mascara wand.

LOreal Voluminous Mascara

If you like working hard to get your lashes coated, this mascara is for you.  If you like a natural look, this mascara is for you.  However, if you want blinging lashes — try Voluminous. It rivals Dior Show, Lancome Difinicils, Chanel Sculpte Cils — in my book at least.  And in the drugstore at $7.99, it’s a fraction of the price of the high end mascaras.  Plus, when it’s on sale, I stock up.

Back to Telescopic Explosion — It gets 3 Blings

Thanks Elana. It’s one of the reasons I removed ads from my site. I just want to be able to be honest about anything I try.

Were we seperated at birth? I LOVE Voluminous mascara. Everytime I put it on I have to talk to myself, “Okay, Katrina. Enough already. Put the wand down.” I was a mascara junkie, but now I only use Voluminous. Great Post!

Katrina — you know there are so many people that love this mascara. I can’t get enough of it. And you know the crazy part? I like it when it gets kind of old and thick. I’m sure that gross, but hey, I love bit ole lashes!

You know, when I first started my beauty blog, I swore by Voluminous. But then I started getting mascaras to review so I cheated on it quite a bit. Still love it though. I hated Telescopic. It made my lashes look like clumpy, plastic spider legs. Ugh! The first application was horrible. I didn’t have any makeup remover wipes in my purse so I had to wait until I got to the college bathroom to scrub it off. I’m so glad that I didn’t buy it! L’Oreal has been producing some foolery lately!

      Hi Lakish
Thanks for the comment! I keep tried some others but I didn’t even feel like writing about them I was so disappointed! I am still trying to be like you. For example — regular publishing…. LOL! Are you on vacation! Got the haitus alert!

I'd love to hear your thoughts!
