Budget Baby: Burt’s Bees Baby Bee Dusting Powder

As you can see in this photo, my Blinging Baby is a happy, chubby little girl! Her rolls and folds are plenty, and it's a full time job to keep her sensitive skin clean and dry.

Besides staying on top of changes and cleanups to avoid the dreaded diaper rash, I use an all natural diaper cream to form a barrier against wetness. 

Despite my fastidiousness, my little one began getting a nasty rash in the fat folds under her neck! Red and raw from the constant wetness of baby drool, sweat, and breastmilk, the irritation improved when I applied a liberal dusting of baby powder to keep the area dry after cleaning.

But all baby powders are not created equal. Many contain talc or talcum powder, a highly toxic substance that can cause serious respiratory damage if inhaled. 

Our doctor recommended a careful sprinkling of cornstarch, a common cooking ingredient. It was a bit messy and strange to apply, and I worried about contaminating it each time I dipped my hands into the plastic tub. Naturally, cornstarch doesn't have that baby fresh scent that makes powdering pleasant! So I began searching for an alternative baby powder that could keep our Blinging Baby dry and sweet smelling from head to toe.

As the Minimalist Mommy, I am all about natural, multipurpose baby products that go a long way and can be used by everyone. In this area, Burt's Bees Baby Powder is a winner! Baby Bee Dusting Powder is good for the whole family, costs less and has better ingredients than many similar conventional items. I actually like the freshness of powder myself and this has quickly become one of my favorites, replacing my more expensive, talc containing "grown up" dusting powder. 

And speaking of that "grown up" dusting powder, if there is one thing I might change about the Baby Bee Dusting Powder, it would be to switch the containers, which I've contemplated doing!  The Baby Bee Dusting Powder has the typical powder twist top with multiple tiny holes. My dusting powder has an adjustable swivel top. sort of like what you would find on a salt or pepper container. So I can either sprinkle or pour, which makes it much easier (and safer) to dispense. While that would make this powder a 5 star product, it is actually a minor issue and doesn't stop me from using it.

All in all, Burt's Bees Baby Bee Dusting Powder is a quality product that I would recommend to anyone, any age!
