I looked in the mirror this morning and didn’t like what I saw. Tired, old, dark circles. My hair was sticking up in the air I had on last night’s mascara. What a mess. It was easy for me to see all the negative — and worse, to buy into it.
It’s hard to write about external beauty everyday and believe it. So I guess that’s why I have started and stopped writing at least 5 posts. That’s why I take breaks from product recommendations, reviews and all that other stuff. Some days are for introspection. That’s what today is for me.
Forget the concealer, forget the foundation. It’s me and a cup of coffee and a book.
And my daily affirmation from Stuart Smalley, (Senator Al Franken’s SNL character): I’m Good Enough, I’m Smart Enough, and Doggone It, People Like Me!
So ultimately it’s a matter of mind over matter. As the boy that was trying to get at me when I was 16 told me, “If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter”. Well today I don’t mind that I look my age or even feel it for that matter. Instead I choose to feed my mind. It’s mind over matter. Barnes & Noble, here I come.
