Budget Beauty Tuesday: Black Pencil Eyeliner Face Off

What self-respecting woman doesn’t have a black eye liner — a pencil to be specific — in her arsenal of makeup must-haves? I have several…. (12-step program definitely needed, black eyeliner and red lipstick are not luxuries, they are necessities.) Imagine Kim or Khloe Kardashian without black eyeliner.  Shudder….

Well, I love Urban Decay 24/7 glide on pencil in Zero, it’s the bomb, the best.  But, when you are addicted to eye liner, that pencil can be worn down to a nub in no time.  So that’s why you have your cheap thrills, you know, the budget eyeliner from the drugstore.  I have tried them all and they are not all created equal.

Prince

Before I even get to the budget black eyeliner, I have to back peddle and admit that I cheated on my Urban Decay with Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes pencil.  Same price, but they are not created equal.  Urban Decay 5 blings, MUFE maybe 3.  MUFE didn’t have that easy breezy glide-on that capability that Urban Decay has, and I wasn’t able to rim my inner eye with ease.  It was a little too matte for my liking and  since I bought it at Sephora, I think it’s going back.

And of course there is Prince, he wouldn’t get caught without his black eyeliner and stacked heel  boots.

Now for the budget black pencil eyeliners:

Jane Cosmetics Be Pure Mineral Eye Liner Pencil

Jane Be Pure Mineral Eye Liner

1.  Jane Be Pure Mineral One Liners in Onyx Noir – $3.99 (I paid $.99)

It’s self sharpening glides on similarly to my beloved Urban Decay.  I also like the little smudger on the opposite end.   Lasting power is a bit short and I had a little irritation to my eyes despite it’s mineral base.

I give Jane 3 Blings.

Revlon Colorstay Pencil Eyeliner

2.  Revlon Color Stay Eyeliner in Black – $7.49 (got mine for $1.99)

Love it.  This eyeliner is intensely black and glides on with little pressure and effort.  Who wants drag on their eyelid right?  It does not smudge and lasts and eternity.

Black Radiance Starry Eyes

3. Black Radiance Starry Eyes Jet Black – $3.99

Technically this is an eyeshadow, and I used it for that blacked out smokey look with much success.  But, for eyeliner precision, you can take your stiff slant brush and make a lovely line with this stick shadow.  LOVE IT!  Last for hours while maintaining it’s color integrity, and the price of a latte, it won’t hurt your wallet.

So which eyeliner do you rock?  Do you skim or spend when it comes to your eyeliner?

Great article I have to agree with you on Urban Decay 24/7 in Zero. I absolutely love this pencil and it is the best. Revlon is the next best budget brand I will agree.
