Fierce Fridays: Secret Weapon — Go Nude

20th Nov 2009, by Tracey Brown, filed in Advice, Beauty, Beyonce, Bobbi Brown, Cargo, Clinique, Color Theory, Eva Marcille, Fierce Friday, Fierce Fridays, Friday Fix, Lipgloss, Lipstick, Nude, Revlon, Rihanna, Smashbox, Stila, Top 5, Trends, Weekday Musings

skinWant all eyes on you?  Go nude. Eva does it.  Beyonce’ does it.  Rihanna does it. Monica Lewinsky made it hot!  I’m talking nude lips. Shiny, glossy nude lips will have all eyes on your tonight.

I kicked and screamed when the nude lip came into fashion.  I hated it.  Particularly for women who had small lips, the nude lip just made them look like they had all face — no lips.  Not at all pretty.  Plus most of the original nude lip colors were matte, and they were way too beige and just plain ugly.

When makeup artist Denise Markey gave Monica Lewinsky those shimmery nude lips, Club Monaco lipgloss sales skyrocketed.  Women from 8 to 80 were trying to get those hot lips.  Or maybe they were fantasizing about Bill…

Now, however, I’m a nude lip aficionado.  Love them.  It’s nude or red. Nothing else, nothing in-between.  On the runway, makeup artists often us a concealer or a foundation to nude out the lip, and ladies, this is not a look we want for everyday, or any day for that matter.  Remember that nude is the runway — not the real way.  Today though, the choices are unlimited for the ideal nude lipstick and lipgloss for women of all skin tones.

Notice that Bey’s nude lips have a fleshy pink tone to them, whereas Rihanna has a more pearl true nude color.  The plus about nude lips is that you can vamp up your eyes with lots of shadow, liner and mascara.  Actually, this is the perfect pairing with a nude lip.

Here are my top 5 nude lip colors in no certain order:

1.Revlon Lipgloss in Life’s a Peach

2. Stila Lipgloss in Brown Sugar

3. Black Opal Patent Lips Liquid lipstick in Nude Scene

4. Smashbox Untamed lipgloss is Flesh

5. Clinique Butter shine lipstick in Delovely.

A few tips:

Smaller lips do well with a gloss that has some shimmer, it tends to make lips look larger.

To make gloss last longer, line lips with a nude pencil before application. Try CARGO reverse liner.

If you have larger lips, stick to a gloss that has less shimmer and more saturated color.

Get Nude.  Get Fierce.  It’s Friday!
